Counselling sessions and confidentiality

Our sessions are entirely confidential.

In extreme circumstances, were I to be concerned for your safety or the safety of others, I would have an ethical duty to break this confidentiality. I hope we would have the chance to discuss this first.

In keeping with good practice, I do discuss aspects of my client work with my supervisor, but clients remain anonymous, always.

Notes may be taken during and after each session, which will be kept in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) 2018.

Any notes, as well as a copy of any contract, will be securely stored. Notes are not disclosed to anyone unless directed by a court order.

You have the right to inspect your records should you wish to do so.

The BACP Code of Ethics, to which I adhere, can be found at: BACP ethical framework
